We recognize the difficult economic times facing our state and nation. Yet it is in these challenging times when our values are truly tested. We know Minnesotans highly value our Great Outdoors. They want to pass onto future generations a heritage of clean lakes, rivers and streams; abundant wildlife; natural areas; and accessible parks and trails.

Safeguard Investments for Minnesota’s Future
Our members will be vigilant in reminding Minnesota’s state officials of their responsibility to uphold the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment, making certain that the new funds are used to supplement traditional sources of funding for conservation and are not used as a substitute for existing program funding.

Defend Minnesota’s Environmental Policy Foundation
Minnesota has a long history of laws that protect our public health, land, water and air. Environmental review, community rights, clean energy policies and adequate transit funding are at the heart of these protections. Even in these difficult times, we must continue to act on what is right for the long-term. We will defend these existing laws from rollbacks.

Make the Amendment Work for Clean Water
Money from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment must be targeted to where it will do the most good. Clean-up plans for polluted waters must include clear goals, firm timelines and benchmarks for measuring success.

Protect Our Water from Toxic Mining Pollution
Several companies are interested in operating a new kind of mining — with a long history of causing toxic pollution in other states — in Minnesota’s Arrowhead region. We will work with legislators and the new administration to make improvements to financial assurance and water protection requirements so that this new type of mining will not threaten our water and taxpayers won’t be left paying the bill for pollution clean-up.
